Minutes  17/11/11

1. Attendance was taken and apologies were given for Katie Stevens, Sarah Bailey, Sophie Rowan, Cora Bolger and Shauna Mullen.  1^st Years were absent from meeting and will meet with Ms. Giblin to discuss this.

2.   Ms. Daly attended to speak to us in relation to the anti-bullying policy and the mobile phone and digital device policy.We were all given a copy of the mobile phone and digital device policy and our ideas from last year were noted.Questions were asked by members and everyone was satisfied with the policy review.
3.   The anti-bullying policy was looked at next.  Different forms of bullying were discussed which included internet bullying, exclusion and verbal bullying. Members brainstormed ideas against bullying.  One which was popular was the idea of a bullying report box. We discussed raising awareness of the anti-bullying policy and the idea of a visual charter summarising the policy was very popular. We decided that a poster competition will take place to get the students aware and involved in the creation of this charter. Ellen Doyle suggested the idea of trying to prevent bullying rather than just focusing on dealing with it. She mentioned the idea that Crumlin had at the Student Council seminar in relation to a friendship week of some sort. We will all ask our SPHE teachers for ideas on this topic. Ms Daly is to come back next week with the anti-bullying policy to work with us on the charter.
4.   Students will visit tutor time groups on Tuesday to give an update on the 2 policies and how their ideas were used, to explain the new policies and to tell them about the poster competition we will be running. We will make it clear that this mobile phone policy has not yet been ratified so the current rules still apply.
5.   Yvonne O’Farrell and Laura Ward volunteered to be on the year plan committee and were to start putting that together.
6.   Our next meeting was scheduled for Thursday 24^th November.
