On the 10th of November, all members of the Student Council met with the Board of Management after school. The meeting was organised in order to co-ordinate our goals and discuss problems cropping up in the school.
Mr. Denny chaired the meeting and talked us through the Board's goals for the year. As the Student Council has dealt with a lot of problems like the school coat in recent years, we have decided that this year would be a good one to focus on improving school spirit and increasing social activities within the school. As it so happens, the Board had similar ideas in mind! As we are celebrating the 400th anniversary of Mary Ward this year, it is important that every single student feels involved in the school in some way.
Louise Boden, the Student Council's chairperson, read out the end of year report for 07/08 while Gaelen and Eimear discussed the year plan drafted from students' suggestions. The Board approved of our plan and praised it for its detail and coverage of all areas of school life. However, they said that we would not be able to create more eating areas until all students focus on cleaning up after themselves in the canteen.
Afterwards, we were treated to fizzy drinks, sweets, crisps and cake while we discussed the outcome of the meeting. The meeting was very productive and a great way of ensuring that both parties are thinking along the same lines.
