The school’s swimming team went to the National Aquatic Centre on 5 November to compete in the Inter Loreto Schools Swimming Gala. Loreto schools from all around the country sent teams to the event, so it’s safe to say that competition was fierce! Well done to all swimmers who represented the school so well and special congratulations to Emma (2nd Year) who won the gold medal in the 50m Freestyle, and Megan Duffy (1st Year) who took home the bronze medal in the Under 14s 50m Butterfly!
Here is a short interview with Ciara Kelly (1st Year) who is a member of the school swim team:
Q: Hello Ciara, thanks for taking the time out to do this interview. First of all, why did you decide to join the swim team?
A: I enjoy swimming and I personally think I’m good at it.
Q: Have you been swimming competitively before?
A: Yes, I swim with the Trojans in Newpark and I’ve competed in a few galas.
Q: What was the atmosphere like at the Inter Loreto Schools Swimming Gala?
A: It was exciting but I was very nervous, although I couldn’t wait to get into the water, the pool was 25m in length! We brought our school mascot for support as the Dalkey team had brought Dalkey Duck!
Q: How did you do?
A: I came 4th in my heat in the Under 14’s 50m Back crawl. I hit my elbow off the wall, it was really sore!
Q: Ouch! Overall, how was your experience at the swimming gala?
A: It was really fun and if I had the chance, I’d love to do it again!
