WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
The book I have read is ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ by Agatha Christie. It was published by Harper and Collins and has 347 pages. This book is a murder mystery.
In this novel an American is found dead, after being stabbed a dozen times, in his compartment which is locked from the inside. The murder takes place while the train is stuck in a snowdrift and therefore the murderer is still on board the train. It is up to Hercule Poirot to solve the case but he discovers much more than he expected!
The novel is set on a train, the Orient Express, which is travelling across Europe. The main character is Hercule Poirot - a detective. He is very observant and highly skilled at what he does. It is his job to investigate the mystery. Other important characters are Mr. Ratchett, the murder victim; Hector MacQueen, his secretary and Edward Mastermind, his valet. Another American, a Swede, an Italian, a Russian Princess and a count and countess are on board too. There are also three other men and two women on board. They are now all suspects in the investigation.
WHAT I THOUGHT:
In this novel Agatha Christie describes the characters and their mannerisms very well. It isn’t that hard of a book to read although it has a bit of French. This may be off-putting to someone who don’t speak the language but not knowing it doesn’t take away from the book as there is so little it can be disregarded.
I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults; it is a well rounded book
