Drama is an important part of the curriculum in Loreto College Foxrock, linking with a variety of subject areas such as History, Religion, Irish, English and European Writers. It encourages communication skills and confidence as well as awareness of clarity in oral expression, a crucial achievement for survival in today’s world.

All 4th Year students participate in a drama module which culminates in an Oral Communication Examination given by an extern examiner from the Royal Irish Academy. The student must speak from memory a poem of her own choice, make a prepared speech of four minutes duration on a topic of her own choosing. She must also choose a novel to discuss and read from as well as answer questions on the work presented. Students from 4th and 5th Year perform drama scenes as part of the Christmas Carol Concert.

All 4th Years take part in the annual musical in association with CBC Monkstown in March while 5th Years perform a play/musical in February. In May each year our 2nd Years together with a small number of 4th Years collaborate on a musical production with the students in Blackrock College.

We are delighted that, in the summer of 2009, our school hall was fitted out with a state-of-the-art lighting system as well as new stage curtains. Needless to say, a commitment to excellence is expected from all our students.
