The Parent/School Association has been delighted to organise a number of events in the school between September and May. We have also made financial contributions to support a variety of activities and productions throughout the school year.
AGM and Talk by Orlaith Donoghoe, Head Of Occupational Therapy in St. John Of Gods Hospital, Stillorgan.
Following our AGM we were delighted to welcome Orlaith whose talk entitled “Keeping It Together In A Topsy Turvey World” was hugely informative. Orlaith specialises in stress, anxiety management and relaxation training and her talk looked in a fun and practical way at useful coping skills and strategies to help in juggling the demands of our daily lives.
First Year Parents Night
This was the second year running this social evening for the parents of first years and was again a wonderful success and very well supported. The evening was an informal gathering in the upstairs function room of the Leopardstown Inn and took place in early February. It gave parents the opportunity to meet and get to know the parents of their daughter’s new friends.
Musical and Dramatic Productions 2010/2011
Seussical the Musical:
The Parent Association was delighted to give financial support to this most enjoyable and successful production. The show ran from 11th-15th April 2011 and was performed by the Transition Year students of both Loreto College Foxrock and CBC Monkstown. As with previous years there was wonderful enthusiasm and commitment on the part of the drama teachers and students and amongst the many parents who were involved in so many aspects of the show.
The Importance Of Being Earnest:
Equally it was great to support the wonderful fifth year production of this most popular and humerous play by Oscar Wilde. It took place in the school concert hall and ran from March 2-4 2011. Well done to all those involved in producing three such excellent evenings of entertainment.
Sheila O’Malley Practical Parenting. Talk for parents.
A talk entitled “Happy Parent – Happy Home” was given by Sheila O’Malley who trained in practical parenting with Tony Humphries. The evening was organised by the Parent Association and was very well attended. It was a most enjoyable and interesting talk and as always we came away with a feeling of being better equipped with the necessary skills to deal with the ups and downs in family life during the teenage years. Sheila also talked about the importance of keeping a balance within ou own lives to enable us to maintain a solid equilibrium within the home Tea and coffee were served afterwards and it was a most sociable evening.
Funday 2011
The eighth annual funday took place this year on May 8th 2011 in the school grounds. This truly is a fun day and consists of twelve different games that each team of girls must perform in a two hour period. No girl performs the same game during her six years in Loreto Foxrock due to the ingenious mind of Donal McCarthy who has devised an entirely new set of games for each year! Enormous organisation goes into making this day the wonderful day that it is. The commitment of the Parent Association to the organisation of the event is huge but particularly to Daphne Dent and Donal McCarthy, two parents who give hours of their time to ensure that the day runs smoothly. The girls entered truly into the spirit of the day by dressing up in their various team colours, and in some cases painting their faces so well that even their own mothers did not recognise them! Yet again the sun shone as the girls retrieved rubber ducks from ponds, maneuvered themselves on stilts through an obstacle course and hit coconuts from their perches to name but a few of the fun tasks they enjoyed!
Sixth Year Students’ Memento
The Parent Association were delighted to organise a silver bracelet for each of the sixth year girls as a keepsake for the years spent in Loreto Foxrock. These were presented to the individual girls at a ceremony in the school in May and the girls were hugely appreciative of their memento.
Debs Dance 2011
The Loreto Foxrock Debs Dance has been organised this year for the 8th October 2011 by the Debs Committee. A huge amount of time, energy and thought has gone in to the planning to ensure that it will be a very special evening for the girls. The committee has added some lovely detail to the evening to make this event one of which the girls will feel very proud.
Plans For Hockey Dugouts in October 2011
Following a survey of the students’ “wishlist” by the Student Council the girls from the Council approached the Parent Association to ask for assistance in funding two hockey dugouts for the main hockey pitch. In conjunction with the girls some research was done to source an irish company at a competitive price. Hockey dugouts at the side of the pitch would mean the girls could leave their gear under cover if it rains, the substitutes would have a place to sit while waiting to play and if any girl was injured she could be looked after in a more comfortable setting than on the ground at the side of the pitch. We are delighted to say that there are plans to install two dugouts in October 2011. It is so satisfying to be able to assist the girls in achieving something they are so keen to have.
Second-hand Book Sale and Second-Hand Uniform Sale
The Parent Association has organised the sale of second-hand books and uniforms in the school on Friday 24th June between 2-4pm. Any student who wishes to bring any suitable donations may leave them at either of the main doors to the school from Friday 3rd June, where there are two large containers.
On behalf of the Parent/School Association, we would like to wish you all a happy, sunny and relaxing summer and we wish the 6th Years much success in their future careers.
