Message from the Director
As I was the new teacher on the block, I didn’t know what to expect on audition day back in September last year. In walked eleven eager fifth years and glory be – all of them could act! If we could drag in one more person, we’d have the perfect cast for say… “Twelve Angry Men” I thought. After a bit of persuasion a full cast was organized and a notion was realized – thirteen strong performers plus a dream stage manager. At the risk of making it sound like I did nothing, this has been a wonderful experience; Loreto girls are great! We all loved the play; the message, the moral, the journey each jury member must embark on… At the time of writing, I haven’t had to tear my hair out or plead for commitment (though there are still two weeks to go!). My thanks to the students involved on stage and off, to Nuala Mannion and the staff who have helped out, and in particular my predecessors Ciara Breen and Medbh McKevitt who have gone beyond the call of duty. Seamas O’Neill was a godsend. Special thanks also to parents who got involved and local sponsors. Girls: if I forget to tell you, you’re all brilliant – well done; this was a special one.
Emer Halpenny
