Our annual Readers & Writers Week is once again upon us with a exciting line-up of guests and a wide variety of events and activities for all our students. This year, our week acknowledges Dublin's recently designated status as UNESCO's city of literature, and we are delighted to welcome Judy May, Martina Devlin, Róisín Ingle, Denise Deegan, Una McKevitt and Níall de Búrca. Our 1st Year students, who are busy reading for the MS ReadaThon, will learn more about Multiple Sclerosis and the ReadaThon when they meet a representative of MS Ireland.
Fun events include scavenger hunts, spelling bees, fun quiz and fancy dress day on Friday 28th when students and staff will dress up as characters from books and stories. Submissions are invited in our creative writing (short story and poetry) and art poster (design a poster advertising Readers & Writers Week) competitions. Submission date for both competitions is Monday 24th October. Our 'Whose Words are These?' competiton promises to be very popular and students can take a few days to identify the famous words from stories, books and speeches. Don't forget - there are fabulous prizes for all our events, so get busy with your submissions.
All are invited to 'Bring a book....take a book'. If you have any books at home that you have read and are willing to part with, simply bring them in, leave them at the 'Bring a Book' stall for someone else to read and take a book to read from the stall.
We will all take a much needed rest on Friday afternoon for our regular D.E.A.R (drop everything and read) - a peaceful relaxing interlude amidst the flurry of activity. The week will then close with the announcement of prize winners and the awarding of prizes.
We hope that all our students enjoy this very special week which is our school's celebration of the written and spoken word, of reading, writing, story and drama.
