Debating Success

2011 has been a fantastic year for the Debating Societies in Loreto Foxrock – the last 10 days in particular.
Congratulations must go to two Transition Year students, Eabhan Rowe and Erica Duffy who won the Trinity College PhilSpeaks Competition.  The girls were awarded a trophy and €100 each.  Both have also been offered the exciting opportunity to debate in schools’/university debates programme whereby each will be paired with and coached by experienced inter-varsity debaters.

Congratulations to Ludivine Rebet (5th Year) and Aisling O’Brien (TY) who won the Finals of the Loreto Mace competition in Dalkey.  The girls successfully proposed the motion “That This House Would Emigrate” and took back the Loreto Senior Trophy to Foxrock.  Our school enjoyed particular success in this competition this year.  We were the only school to have two teams proceed to the semi-final stage and both teams also qualified for the final.  The speakers who competed for Foxrock were Eabhan Rowe, Clodagh Harney, Sarah Hoolohan and Aoife Duffy.
Congratulations also to Ludivine Rebet and Caoimhe Stafford (6th Year) who were beaten into a close second in the Denny Leinster Schools’ Debates Semi-Finals.  On the night the girls were commended for their skills debating “That This House Would Brand Wikileaks a Terrorist Organisation” and narrowly lost out on reaching the final round.
Congratulations also to Sarah Fenn in 3rd Year who, despite the pressure of Mock exams, won a place in the quarter-finals of the Junior Schools’ Debates in UCD.  Unfortunately Sarah’s adventure ended here but she looks forward to entering the realms of Senior Competition next year!
