The following is a list of work assignments which teachers were preparing for students for the Christmas break.  
Please note that many teachers have already allocated work to exam students. The following is work for any students who have not already been allocated work.
Some assignments have not yet been received.  These will be posted over the next few days.  Please keep checking these pages.   Correct as at 7 January 2011.

 

English:

Leaving Cert

  • Ms. McKevitt:
    10 quotes and explanations prepared from Act 4
    and 5 Hamlet.
    Finish characterisation on Hamlet.
    Use Endeavour section on narrative journalism to write an article for the composing part of Paper 1. You can pick any title from the exam papers.

  • Ms. Lea: 
  • 6th Year Ordinary Level English:
    Both of the following questions are from 2004 Paper 2
    1  Comparative Section II. B Theme. Question 1 (a) and Q 1 (b).
    Pick either the theme of freedom or the theme of relationships that you studied in 5th Year. You need to write about 1.5 pages for part (a) and about 2 to 2.5 pages for part (b).
    2  Poetry Section III. D 'Tis a beauteous evening calm and free', William Wordsworth.
    Question 1 (a), (b) and (c). Question 2 (i) AND (iii).
    You covered this poem in 5th Year so go back and have a look over your notes and look at your poetry book.

Read to end of 1st Chapter.

Question: How does the separation of powers ensure that there is a balance of power in the U.S. political system? Hints: First few pars – explain separation of powers (3 branches). Give lots of examples of the system in operation i.e. a President bargaining with Congress, example LB Johnson, critical analysis: does it really work? In spite of this system the power of the President has swollen, example: Nixon Presidency had to be reduced to two terms after Roosevelt.

    As per instructions from class on Monday- Complete the mock examination paper that was handed out in class on Monday. All sections to be completed as per exam paper instructions. Complete short questions from examination papers. Any one who did not receive a copy of the paper handed out in class to complete the 2010 examination paper instead.

Read to end of current chapter. (Arrian – small book). Answer the following questions on the Battle of Guagamela:
A) Describe Alex and Darius’ preparation for battle.
B) Who was better prepared? Explain why.
C) Describe the battle formations (line up of troops)of Alex and Darius.
D) Show how Darius learned from his mistake at Issus (he had chosen the wrong site for battle).

 

Accounting:
