We are very fortunate in Loreto College, Foxrock, to have highly dedicated and skilled Home Economics teachers. The subject is very popular among students at Junior, Transition and Senior cycles.

There are two fully equipped Home Economics rooms with a full range of modern culinary skills, textile studies and audio visual equipment. Taking into account the increased emphasis on practical assessment and its integral part in the curriculum at both senior (Social and Scientific) and junior levels, we are constantly updating and investing in equipment broadening the facilities available to our students.

The transition year programme offers students the opportunity to explore new avenues within the subject, i.e. International Cuisine. The development of research skills at junior and transition levels are further enhanced at senior level within the new curriculum, where practical research and coursework accounts for 20% of final Leaving Certificate grades.

Our students express great interest activity based learning through partaking in competitions and completing a diverse range of projects in all areas of the Home Economics curriculum, (Food Science and Nutrition, Textile Studies, Consumer Studies, Resource Studies, Social and Health Studies and Housing).
