Three teams entered in the Denny Leinster Schools’ Debates have done very well.  Orfhlaith Sheehy and Caoimhe Stafford have reached the semi-finals of this prestigious competition.  They successfully proposed the motion that ‘All countries should have access to nuclear power’.  They will be debating on Thursday 18th March, proposing the motion ‘TTHW water-board terrorists’.

Ludivine Rebet reached the quarter-finals on her own as an individual speaker, but was unsuccessful in proposing the motion: ‘TTHW allow the guards to use entrapment’.   Sarah Hoolahan and Stephaine Myles were unsuccessful in proposing their second round motion: ‘That this house would allow the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports’.

We entered two teams in the prestigious Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition in February.  Caoimhe Stafford and Ludivine Rebet were successful in their efforts to qualify for the finals of this competition which took place on Saturday 13th March. The girls travelled to the competition accompanied by Caoimhe’s mother. They did excellently, coming 23rd overall in the competition and winning two of their initial round debates.

The annual Loreto Senior Mace Debates Day was held last Wednesday in Loreto St. Stephen’s Green.  Two teams were entered in the competition: Caoimhe Stafford and Ludivine Rebet & Clodagh Harney and Sarah Hoolahan.  The girls did very well on the day.  Caoimhe and Ludivine were narrowly defeated by Beaufort in the final of the competition and came runners-up.
