Three teams entered in the Denny Leinster Schools’ Debates have done very well. Orfhlaith Sheehy and Caoimhe Stafford were successful in their second round debate last Thursday. They proposed the motion: ‘TTHW Introduce Hard Labor Into Prisons’. They continue into the next round of debates.
Clodagh Harney and Ludivine Rebet were chosen to go forward into the second round of debates in this competition as wildcard individual speakers. Clodagh debated the motion: : ‘That This House Would Penalise Sports Teams for the Behaviour of their Fans’. She was unfortunately knocked out of the competitioon in this debate last Thursday.
Ludivine debated last night in UCD and was successful in opposing the motion: ‘That This House Would Abolish Juries’. She will now progress to the next round of debates.
Sarah Hoolahan and Stephaine Myles were chosen to go forward into the second round of debates as a wildcard team. They will debate this Thursday in UCD, proposing the motion: ‘That this house would allow the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports’.
We have also entered two teams in each of the prestigious Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition in February.
Cambridge Schools’ Debating-Two teams entered this competition and Ludivine Rebet and Clodagh Harney are on the reserve list to travel to Cambridge next year. They came second out of 16 teams and are awaiting contact from Cambridge to see if they will get to travel.
We have also been invited to take part in the UCD Law Society Mace Debating weekend on the 26th and 27th of February. We hope to send two or three teams to this event.
